Federal Court Appeals

Federal appeals from any Michigan federal court have to be  taken to  the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in   Cincinnati.  Mr. Eaman has been  practicing before that court since  1978, and currently has several cases  awaiting decision or recently  decided in that court.  Ms. Gabbara is expected to be admitted to the   bar of that court in May of 2014.

Federal appeals have different rules than state  appeals.  The time  to take an appeal from  a criminal conviction is very short – fourteen  days from the entry of your judgment of conviction. All filing is electronic, and filing requires that you be qualified as an electronic  filer in  the Sixth Circuit.

Mr. Eaman has also  argued an appeal in  the Second Circuit in New York, and is admitted to practice  before the  United States Supreme Court.  For  a representative sample of his appeal  cases, see his resume.
